The Very Hungry Caterpillar hooded baby blanket (FREE PATTERN)

On the weekend I shared about pulling together a few free crochet patterns to create the Very Hungry Caterpillar hooded baby blanket for my close friends’ baby.

This blanket is one part Batman logo from Louie’s Loops, one part giraffe horns from Emma’s Stripey Giraffe, and about eight parts Hooded Baby Blanket from Lion Brand.

Let me try and piece it all together for you…

Close up ends using long tail to sew them shut

6. Assembly

  1. Using the long tails, sew on the eyes and nose to the Hood (see photos for placement)
  2. With the right side of the Hood facing up (i.e. showing eyes and nose), lay the Hood over one corner of the Blanket, matching the edges and pin it in place
  3. Add the border around the edge of the Blanket:

(Red) attach the yarn to one corner of the Blanket, spacing stitches to keep edge flat and working through both layers at the Hood corner (including slipping the end of each Antannae in between the layers at appropriate spots (see photos for placement)). Work the same pattern as Row 2 of the Blanket, making sure to work 1sc  + 2dc at each corner. Tie off and sew in the ends.

Don’t forget to pin this pattern to your Pinterest so you don’t lose it… And I’d love to see your finished blankets, so please share your photos. Happy crocheting!
